These are a simple, cheap but really clever idea to keep all of our plants well watered without it being a chore. And as our tomatoes seem to need a never ending supply of watering these are the answer to anyone who feels they are spending way too much time having to water a few special plants.
These wine bottle watering stakes really are a great idea so let's take a bit more of an in depth look at what exactly they are and how they are made.
Plant Nanny Wine Bottle Watering Stakes
Honestly, these are very cool and super efficient, as well as a really good excuse to drink wine! The wine bottle watering stakes from Plant Nanny come in two types and basically the only difference is that one comes with an auger. Considering the price difference is a few cents then it makes sense to get the better pack.

And take a look at the reviews, this is certainly a good buy and really will save a lot of time. So, what are they and how do they work and are they really "ECO"?
Firstly the auger is just a simple gadget to make a hole for the stake, but we may as well get it as it costs so little extra.
The wine bottle plant nanny stakes themselves work by simply allowing us to place an old wine bottle upside down full of water in the stake. Obviously we will fill the bottle the right way up, stick the plant nanny on and then invert it. It will then drip water a big pot plant, indoors or out, or in my case to stop the beloved tomatoes from crying out for more water in the hot summer sun!!!
Let's take a look at the eco side of things.
Well, the plant nanny stakes themselves are made of ceramic, much better than plastic but as with anything it will mean some processes have been involved, but this is the case with any product. But, the good thing is that as they are made from something durable they will last for decades.
For me where the real eco side of it comes in to play is with the fact that we are genuinely and properly recycling our wine bottles. When we take them to a recycling bank or they get collected there are still loads of processes before they can be re-used. This way we are getting 100% efficient recycling of our wine bottles, and we don't have far to go to do it.
A short walk down the garden or even just to our favorite indoor plant and we can use our old wine bottles with 100% efficiency. This is the perfect gift for a gardener or for a wine enthusiast, although obviously a combination of the two would be best!
I think these are a great idea and at the nice low price they can be a great gift for ourselves too. A top pick from me and highly recommended. Take a look and see what you think and let me know how they worked out for you too.
